I think Demuro owned one, before the Range Rover. You might want to ask him.

If it has the new tt v8, I've had a couple of small issues with that engine. I never had an issue with the electronics in any of my mercs, (except one caused by a body shop). I'd buy a g if I was a rapper though.

They've been making it for decades so I would hope they have any teething issues sorted out by now. Too bad they pricey.

Rust or the chassis itself doesn't seem to have any major flaw, but maintenance must be a horror, as are the electronics. The engines are standard Merc engines, so no big issues to be expected.

Under absolutely no circumstances should you consider such a thing. The fact that CarMax refuses to sell these because no one will write a warranty for it is telling, especially considering that CarMax will sell a CL65 AMG and an E60 M5.

Did you own one before?

for a car designed to be a German Land cruiser, its a pretty dodgy thing reliability wise, at least in US spec.

Yes, I had a 2002 model. The only benefit of the G-Wagen is they seem to have a price floor so they're a lot more reasonable financially than some rivals. Until you start paying for repairs...
Older ones seem better — before they started adding all sorts of luxurious extras.

Reliable doesn't cross the G-Wagon buyers mind. That would be like asking if it gets good gas mileage.

Indeed. You still see thirty year old 240GDs and the like.

That's a good question. On one hand, it's based on a military vehicle so it must be reliable, but on the other it is a Mercedes...

Have an '05 G500. Has yet to shit the bed so I would say yes. It also runs on hippies so if there is a gas shortage I always have San Francisco...
